Perform more calibrations in-house

When I took over our company's electrical calibration lab 13 years ago, they were using old standards with limited capability. They were also sending out a lot of equipment to calibration contractors, costing huge dollars. I put together a cost benefit analysis proposal centered on the Fluke 5520A Calibrator and Fluke 8508A Reference Multimeter. These two standards allowed us to perform more calibrations in-house, more efficiently, reducing turn-around time. By utilizing these new standards, we also reduced our outside costs significantly, and our ROI was less than 18 months.
